Opening Prayer.
Icebreaker: What are you celebrating? Where are you struggling?

Introduction: God created us for His purpose, and He has plans for our lives. God’s will is within reach for everyone who draws close and develops a relationship with God.

Recap

Two aspect of God’s will:

1. God’s Sovereign will
2. God’s revealed will

29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29:29)

How to know God’s Will

1. Meditate on God’s Word

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”Psalm 119:105 (NLT)

2. Guidance of the Holy Spirit

• Read Matthew 4:1-17 and discuss what stands out to you in this passage about Jesus being led by the Holy Spirit.
• Read and discuss Acts 8:29-35 and Romans 8:14

In John 15:26, Jesus promised to send us the Holy Spirit:

“But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me. (John 15:26)

Also consider reading John 16:5-15 and John 20:19-23

Discussion Questions:

• What are some ways that the Holy Spirit leads us?
• How do we know that we are being led by the Holy Spirit as opposed to a contrary spirit (1 Kings 22:21-23)?
• Romans 8:13-17 is an important scripture for believers. What is the implication of this passage for us as believers today?

Personal Application:

• Study God's word daily:

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” - 2 Timothy 2:15

• Be led by the Spirit of God:

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons[f] of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.(Romans 8:13-17)

• Serve God’s Purpose: "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15b)

Jesus served His Father’s purpose. Phillips and others throughout the bible served the Lord. We are created to serve God’s purpose. prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit where He wants you to serve (if you are not doing so in some formal and consistent capacity)
