Series: Order                           Topic: A Call to Order

But all things should be done decently and in order. (1 Corinthians 14:40)

23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:26-27)

23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)

12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worshipDo not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.. (Romans 12:1-2)

For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body (1 Cor. 6:20).

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. (Prov. 4:23).

12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. 14 The natural [psuchikos – soulish] person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14).

12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Heb. 4:12).

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 139:13-14)

3 Truths to establish order in my life:

  1. THE SPIRIT IS MY CONNECTION TO GOD

23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23-24)

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:63)

  1. MY BODY COMPLETELY BELONGS TO GOD

14 Cursed be the cheat who has a male in his flock, and vows it, and yet sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished. For I am a great King, says the Lord of hosts, and my name will be feared among the nations. (Malachi 1:14)

Ask:

  • How am I presenting my body in worship to God continually? Is it based on convenience or divine mandate?
  • Does my body please God (as a sweet aroma), or does it repulse God?
  • Am I honoring the Sabbath rest prescribed by God? Or have I taken it upon myself to determine how to treat the sabbath?
  • Is God pleased with what I put into my body, my exercise regime or lack thereof?
  • Am I treating this body as holy and acceptable temple of God’s Spirit? Some folks take better care of our physical houses (perhaps to impress) than our bodies.
  • Is God lord and boss over my body, or have I taken that right from God?
  1. I CARE FOR MY MIND/SOUL WITH GOD’S WORD

“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4)

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:63)

Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. (John 17:17)

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (Proverbs 14:12)

11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:11-12)
