Topic: Dealing with Insecurities

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Points to remember about insecurity:

1. Every form of insecurity can be traced to the lie of the enemy

2. Insecurity prevents you from fulfilling your destiny

“Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'”” (1 Samuel‬ ‭15:3)

“But Saul and the people spared Agag (king of Amalekites) and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them. All that was despised and worthless they devoted to destruction.” (1 Samuel‬ ‭15:9‬)

“And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel‬ ‭15:22‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

“For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king.”” (1 Samuel‬ ‭15:23‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

“Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.”
‭‭(1 Samuel 15:24)

3. Insecurity grows when you are more concerned about what men perceive you, instead of how God perceives you

HOW TO STARVE AND STOP INSECURITY

1. Counter every untrue thought with God’s Word

“But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor.” (Galatians‬ ‭6:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

2. Be content with what God has for you, while doing your best

“Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” (Galatians‬ ‭6:4-5‬ ‭MSG‬‬)

“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:13-16‬ ‭MSG

““What’s the price of two or three pet canaries? Some loose change, right? But God never overlooks a single one. And he pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk. You’re worth more than a million canaries.” (Luke‬ ‭12:6-7‬ ‭MSG‬‬)

3. Be anchored in God

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and the One who rescues me; My God, my rock and strength in whom I trust and take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower—my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)

4. Resist the enemy

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” “Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,” “and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;” “praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, ”and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,” (Ephesians 6:10-19)
